At home WOD

Tonight I did a quick WOD at home. I thought it would be fair to put myself through the little triplet that I put together for a class at the gym last night. I'm working at the functional fitness gym on base now. :)

2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2
kettlebell goblet squats
kettlebell 2-handed swings
walk-outs*

Time: somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes, didn't time it specifically

*Walk-outs are essentially an "inchworm in place". Start from standing, put your hands on the ground in front of you, and walk out to a plank position. At this point, you can do an optional pushup. Then walk your hands back to your feet, and pull your upper body back up into a standing position. That's one rep.

For this workout, I did pushups on odd reps of the walk-outs.

Rinse, repeat

Was pressed for time Wednesday morning, so we did a slight variation of what we did last Friday.

I used a 40# kettlebell this time. It's time to enforce my rules of nothing smaller than 45# again. Swings get me out of breath, but strength-wise they are easy for me at 35# and 40#. Goblet squats were definitely more challenging with 5 more pounds.

Pushups need MAJOR attention -- i.e. regular practice.

Swing, squat, push

Met a friend for a quick morning workout at the gym on base. I knew she was pressed for time, so I came up with a quick full-body WOD.

Not a clue what our time was, but it definitely got my heart racing. I should've done swings and gone right into squats, but I was too out of breath! It wasn't a strength issue, that's for sure. My pushups need more attention -- they really sucked this morning.

We hit the pullup bar for a few kips and a few deadhangs to finish things off.

Repost: Embarassingly light weights

Originally posted on another blog I write anonymously, but re-posted here because I want this blog to represent my entire journey since starting CrossFit.

The reason I am posting is to admit something very sad. I used a 15 pound kettlebell for 1-armed swings, goblet squats and high pulls today, and 10 pound dumbbells for see-saw presses.

So sad.

But I know my body, and if I push too hard on a first day back to Crossfit after a break, I just get all fucked up and have to take a couple days off to recover. (I re-re-re-learned that lesson after going all out on a Saturday in mid-December, after which I couldn't walk right and had very bad tendinitis in my elbow for a week) So, I swallowed my pride, and went wimpy this morning. But check back with me at the end of the month, and I'm sure I'll be close to throwing around my favorite gray 30 pound kettlebell on some standard swings. Woot!

I don't even want to know how shitty I am with my pushups now... Ugh. Or running. My lungs were freakin' burning this AM!

But I was rewarded for my early wakeup by the presence of my favorite former-Marine trainer. That always makes me smile during a 6am workout. :) Plus he complimented me on my form for goblet squats! I just smiled in appreciation, and did not mention that I was only using a 15 pound bell. He'll never know!
